Ice Climbing Ecrins 2025: This Year? Come by Pony!

The idea is to have fun and immerse yourself in an experience that helps reduce (even more) our carbon emissions... so?

Are you ready to take on the mobility challenge? There are 3 categories:
1) the smallest carbon footprint (carbon emitted per km ratio)
2) the most extravagant collective adventure
3) the best-documented slow travel journey
More information coming soon on social media!

So, you’ve got it—this year, come by pony!

Affiche Ice 2025

What’s new?
As for activities, we still have the four pillars of ICE:
• Workshops, with gear testing, guides, and athletes from top brands!
• A stage of the World Cup in a natural setting (yes, really!)
• Two film and debate evenings
• THE party featuring the legendary band: CARAVAN PALACE!

And at the heart of the festival:
The fleeting ice waterfalls... with Petzl, Camp, Millet, RAB, Black Diamond, Patagonia, Simond, Grivel, and the Ecrins Guides Bureau ;-)

Safety in EVERY workshop, with the FFCAM, CRS, and PGHM, to help you adapt your behavior to the mountain environment.

But that’s not all! There’s also :
Ski touring with the ESF of Puy Saint Vincent; Scarpa,
Free-skiing with La Sportiva and Anthony Lamiche,
A snowshoeing workshop to explore our landscapes,
A splitboard workshop where you climb with touring skis and descend on a snowboard,
An e-bike workshop to move around the valleys,
A ice climbing dance workshop with Antoine Le Menestrel,
And new this year, an ICE/HOT workshop: "Wim Hof" and a sweat lodge— ready?

Two new partners this year: Samaya and Cumulus for a bivouac in one of our beautiful valleys (don’t forget your fleece underwear)!

Also, Patagonia is coming with its jacket repair caravan for all brands!

The exhibition at the ICE Village will showcase the latest gear with our partners, and there will be free equipment testing (only within partner workshops, e.g., Petzl, LaSportiva, Camp, Grivel, Simond, Millet, RAB, Scarpa, Black Diamond workshops).

To borrow gear, remember to reserve with our local stores and partners, Roc Ecrins, Espace Montagne, King’s, and Chaud Sport, who are offering a 20% discount upon showing your ICE badge!

So, are you in?

For this 35th edition, we’ll see you from January 16 to 19, 2025, in L’Argentière-la-Bessée.

Concept

The most frozen event on the planet!!!

3 days of workshop, entertainment, training by mountain guides, equipment test, shuttle bus, what else?

Concept 1 : Workshops of ice climbing, ski trek, free ride, dry-tooling, snowshoes, also cycling workshops & splitboard workshops

With always the training and sharing in the heart of this event.
The expertise of FFCAM and mountain guides (60 in Ice 2024) enables us to offer initiation and improvement workshops, in dozen spots with a priority on :
Search of avalanche victims and study of the snow-cover.
Preparation of race (the study of ice conditions, analysis of the weather forecast, read guidebooks, map, directions).
Using of safety materials (DVA, shovel, probe).

Concept 2 : A professional exhibition and materials tests.
The idea : test, try and approve !

Through partners of Ice Climbing, Petzl, Beal, Millet, La Sportiva, Chullanka, Grivel, Lowa, RAB, HDry, l’ESF de Puy Saint Vincent, Simond, Patagonia, Au Vieux Campeur, etc...
You can test cramps, helmet, ice pick, shoes … within the limit of available stocks. Be shure that you are autonomous with the gear, you can only test it there, no loan. Call also our partners’ shops (have a look at the Practical info part). Also, be careful : DVA, shovel and probe are obligatory !

Concept 3 : The OPEN competition: dry-tooling & icefall !

Best climbers of the world will have to be the faster! Arms vibrate, cramps screech, and ice picks are sparks for timeless show ! This new form of competition will be tested at the Champagny (dificulty) and ICE (speed) for the 2023 Olympic Games!

Cracked voice, break away!

Concept 4 : Entertainments of course !!!

The first movies Festival followed of round tables, with famous guests, musicians & dancers, concerts, DJs and work fire!!!
But also a literary café, Last news reading…
... and Free massages in the yurt by kiné professional.

So, ready?

Security

Don’t forget your headlamp, it could save your life....
Security briefings are indispensable before setting off to climb. If you weren’t able to attend: ask the guides to inform you about conditions.
The valleys close at 15h, departure time for the last shuttle. Be aware of the High Mountain gendarmes, mountain security police and guides who looked after your security during the day in the valleys: don’t keep them waiting!

Mobility Challenge

What’s the Mobility Challenge?

ICE 2025 is designed to be as sustainable as 2030, aligning with the Paris Agreement goal to limit temperature increases to 1.5°C. The idea is to create a fun, immersive experience while hosting an event that actively reduces our carbon emissions.

For a few years now, ICE has been shrinking its waste footprint by using reusable cups and utensils (with post-meal “dance-washing”!), as well as by offering food that is local, vegetarian, and organic.

Calculate your carbon footprint with the ADEME website
So what’s yours?

This year, we’re partnering with YOU—the participants—to further reduce both our and your carbon impact by encouraging everyone to opt for train travel, eco-friendly transport, or carpooling (at least three per car, even in a Fiat 500!).

TWO partners are supporting us in this initiative: Mountain Wilderness and Protect Our Winters!

Click the link below to select "L’Argentière les Ecrins" as your destination and book your train ticket!
